Hello all.

I'm just wondering whether it would be possible to grab a list of current hosting plans available from Contrast/XAXAX while the site is down, as I am looking for new hosts for my current employer's site and would like some prices to compare with.

Ideally we wouldn't need anything over and above the sort of starter package I myself use in terms of bandwidth/storage but would like the option of being able to pay up front for a year if possible.

Cheers,
Tim

Thanks Void. I assume all those prices are in $U.S.? I was wondering as well, is it possible for us to pay for a year or so of hosting up-front? Because that would be ideal for the business I am trying to set it up for.

Also, the plan I'm on through Xaxax has 1GB of storage, 25GB bandwidth and 4SQL db's for $9.95 p/month... I didn't see that on the list. Is that still available/current? Or have I been knocked down to 20GB bandwidth to match SP-02?

Cheers again,
Tim

Tim,

You are correct. All prices are in USD. Currently, the only way for us to accept advance payment is by Business Check. If you do not wish to have a monthly subscription, let us know and we can give you the information you need.

Plans through XAXAX.com are still available. However with XAXAX.com you are limited to less email accounts than with Contrast Hosting. That being said, with SP-02 you would get 5GB/month less bandwidth but far more email accounts.

Email accounts are not a problem. The company I am setting this up for is a wholly-owned subsidiary of a university in Western Australia with a considerable IT Network at its disposal (like most universities, it is an ISP in itself) - the only thing I would need are forwarders and even then less than two dozen of them. Bandwidth and HDD space are a bigger concern as these people are prone to throwing around large PDF files and other malarkey.

When you say you can currently only accept advance payments via business check do you mean, is that the only way available to you at the moment as the site is down, or that will only ever be the available way? Would it not be possible to pay in advance by credit card for a year's worth of billing?

If you could provide me with a list of available XAXAX plans as well that would be fantastic.

Cheers,
Tim

Hello Tim,

The XAXAX packages can be found here. The order links are down as we are currently upgrading to the new version of our billing software.

Unfortunately our Merchant account does not allow us to handle yearly payments directly via CC. We can make a exception in your case and accept them through a PayPal account (so you can still use your credit card) but the only other option is a business check sent directly to us.

Let me know if I can help you in any other way.

Thanks,

Frank Owen

Hey, XAXAX.com is back up. Excellent. I'd probably be looking at the starter plan, or if we could get some sort of custom deal that would be excellent (We probably won't need more than 2 SQL db's and probably won't need any actual email accounts at all, only forwarders).

The reason I ask for yearly payments is that we have been completely screwed around by another hosting company who shall remain nameless and the person before me left the place in a mess. I need the site to be highly self-sufficient so that they won't have to worry about anything once it's all in place. To this end I'm already running a test CMS on my server but another main worry is the hosting. I would need to set up a PayPal account but that should not be a problem if you're willing to accept a year's payment up front (I don't think I'd be willing to send a business check from Australia to the US, it's too risky).
